Wife of Ken Ofori-Atta Says He Won’t Obstruct Investigations Amid Medical Recovery

Prof. Angela Ofori-Atta: Ken Ofori-Atta Not Avoiding Corruption Probe, Will Cooperate Fully

Prof. Mrs. Angela Ofori-Atta, wife of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, has assured Ghanaians that her husband is not trying to delay or obstruct ongoing investigations into allegations of corruption.

In an interview with Joy News on Monday, Prof. Ofori-Atta clarified that the former minister is fully prepared to cooperate with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), even if it means doing so virtually, as he recovers from recent prostate cancer surgery.

“He can respond to the questions within a week or two,” she said. “They can send the questions through his lawyers or arrange a video meeting. He’s willing to participate—he has nothing to hide and is not trying to delay the process.”

Her comments come amid heightened public attention on the corruption probe involving Mr. Ofori-Atta, who served as Ghana’s Finance Minister from 2017 to 2024. The investigation follows the issuance of an Interpol red notice and serious allegations including financial mismanagement, abuse of office, and offshore financial dealings during his time in office.

Prof. Ofori-Atta explained that while her husband is currently unable to travel back to Ghana due to ongoing medical treatment, he remains committed to accountability and due process.

“He is under strict medical supervision after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer. Until his doctors approve travel, he cannot return in person—but that doesn’t mean he’s avoiding the investigation,” she said.

In response to public skepticism and speculation that his medical condition may be a tactic to evade justice, Prof. Ofori-Atta firmly stated that her husband is willing to face the law.

“Ghana is home. He is not running away,” she emphasized.

The family’s message is clear: while health challenges are keeping Mr. Ofori-Atta physically away, he is ready to engage with legal authorities and ensure transparency as the investigation continues.
