Thomas Partey Exit: Gabby Otchere-Darko Slams Arsenal’s Handling of Midfielder

Prominent Ghanaian politician and passionate Arsenal fan, Gabby Otchere-Darko, has voiced his disappointment over the reported departure of Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey from the Premier League club, accusing Arsenal of showing “disrespect” to the player.
Otchere-Darko’s reaction comes amid strong reports that Partey is set to leave Arsenal at the end of June 2025, bringing an end to his four-year spell in North London. The 31-year-old joined the Gunners from Atlético Madrid in 2020 for a reported £45 million fee.
Despite ongoing contract talks, negotiations between Partey’s representatives and the club have reportedly stalled. Arsenal are now rumored to be finalizing a deal for Brentford captain Christian Nørgaard as a direct replacement for Partey in midfield.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Gabby Otchere-Darko criticized the club’s handling of the situation, suggesting that Partey’s expected departure is due not to financial reasons but to a lack of appreciation and respect.
“The Thomas Partey I know has not left Arsenal because of more money. It is more because of disrespect,” he wrote. “The club knew when his contract was expiring but was more interested in finding a replacement than courting him to stay.”
Otchere-Darko further explained that Partey, who has a young and growing family, would have preferred to remain in London. However, the midfielder reportedly felt sidelined by the club despite delivering solid performances when fit.
“The club does not give him the respect he deserves, even against what the stats clearly say,” he added. “I love Arsenal, but Thomas deserved better, and he will be dearly missed.”
Thomas Partey has made over 100 appearances for Arsenal, becoming a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s midfield when fit. However, recurring injuries and competition for places have limited his influence in recent campaigns.
Otchere-Darko’s comments have sparked fresh debate among Arsenal fans and football pundits regarding the club’s treatment of long-serving players. As Partey’s future continues to dominate headlines, many Ghanaian supporters have rallied behind him, echoing sentiments that the midfielder was undervalued at the Emirates.
