Rev. Seth Tetteh Odonkor Warns Against Galamsey, Promotes Vocational Skills for Youth

Rev. Seth Tetteh Odonkor Urges Youth to Shun Galamsey, Embrace Skills Training for a Better Future
The Chairman of the Asante South Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Seth Tetteh Odonkor, has called on Ghanaian youth to turn away from illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, and focus on acquiring vocational and technical skills to secure a sustainable and meaningful future.
Speaking at a ceremony to officially elevate the Dompoase Presbyterian Church in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region to District status, Rev. Odonkor underscored the need for the younger generation to pursue legal and productive means of livelihood. He stressed that hard work, discipline, and skill development are essential for personal growth, community advancement, and environmental preservation.
Rev. Odonkor also encouraged Christians to take the Great Commission seriously by spreading the gospel in their communities. He advocated for the decentralization of church activities through smaller, more localized groups, which he believes will make pastoral care more effective and intimate.
The newly established Dompoase District has been carved out of the Tutuka District and will now supervise 14 outstations. This move is expected to enhance the church’s outreach and administrative efficiency in the region.
Adansi Dompoasehene, Okofo Kwabena Bonsu, also addressed the congregation, urging members to live Christlike lives by avoiding gossip and embracing honesty.
Rev. Francis Ofori Atta, the newly appointed Dompoase District Minister, expressed concern over the increasing focus on material wealth among the youth. He advised them to put God first and stay committed to their faith.
The elevation of the Dompoase congregation to District status represents a significant milestone in the growth and mission of the Presbyterian Church within the Asante South Presbytery.
