Prof Gyampo Clarifies Interaction with Special Prosecutor Over SML Raid

Prof Ransford Gyampo Refutes OSP Allegations of Interference in SML Raid
Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, Prof Ransford Gyampo, has strongly refuted claims by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) suggesting that he interfered in an official operation at Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).
In a detailed Facebook post on Sunday, June 22, 2025, Prof Gyampo clarified that he did not contact the OSP office during the raid, contrary to what was implied in a statement issued by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng. Instead, he said he reached out directly to Mr. Agyebeng in a personal capacity.

“I didn’t call your office, I called YOU,” Prof Gyampo emphasized. “We never spoke on the phone because you said you couldn’t speak and that you were going to call back.”
Earlier, the OSP had released a statement claiming that Prof Gyampo had made calls and sent messages regarding the SML raid, suggesting that such communications could potentially interfere with an ongoing investigation being jointly conducted by officers from the OSP and National Security.
However, Prof Gyampo dismissed the interference allegations, explaining that his intention was not to obstruct justice but to caution the Special Prosecutor against taking actions that might result in financial loss to the state. He maintained that he fully supports the mandate of the OSP and only sought to promote accountability and transparency.
“My text was not an attempt to stop any lawful process. I merely urged caution so the state doesn’t suffer any avoidable financial consequences,” he wrote.
Prof Gyampo further clarified that his message to Kissi Agyebeng was motivated by concerns circulating across the political spectrum, which suggested that the ongoing investigation involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta could be interpreted as politically or personally motivated.
He stressed that his intervention was limited to encouraging neutrality and public trust in the process. “I only expressed the hope that your intentions are patriotic and not personal. That’s all,” he added.
As the OSP continues its probe into alleged irregularities involving SML and the former finance minister, this public exchange adds a new layer of complexity to an already high-profile investigation.
