Police Officer Subpoenaed by Court in Case Involving Accused’s Money

A court in Accra has subpoenaed the Madina District Crime Officer to appear in connection with GH¢94,000 allegedly given to him by Emmanuel Nash, an event organizer accused of defrauding a woman of GH¢338,000. Nash was arrested and refunded GH¢94,000 to the Crime Officer, who then failed to release the money to the complainant, Olivia Osei Mensah. Nash petitioned the Police Intelligence and Professional Standard Bureau, leading to the subpoena.
Nash has been admitted to bail and pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and defrauding by false pretenses. His accomplice, Mariam Appiah-Korang, is at large. The court adjourned the matter to August 21 for a Case Management Conference.

The prosecution alleges that Mariam convinced the complainant to pay GH¢30,000 for her three children to be enlisted in security services and collected money from 44 others. The total amount collected was GH¢338,000, but efforts to get the people recruited or have the money refunded failed. Nash admitted receiving the money from Mariam, and Mariam jumped bail during police investigations.
The court is seeking the Crime Officer’s appearance to clarify the handling of the GH¢94,000 refunded by Nash. The case highlights allegations of fraud and corruption involving recruitment into security services. The court will continue to hear the matter on August 21.
