NPP Chairmen Across Ghana Back Boakye Agyarko for National Chairman Position

Boakye Agyarko Receives Surprise Endorsement for NPP National Chairman at Kumasi Conference
What began as a routine appearance at the 2025 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairmen Caucus Conference in Kumasi transformed into a powerful grassroots endorsement for Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, the former Minister of Energy, to contest the party’s National Chairmanship.
Agyarko, a long-time NPP stalwart, initially attended the event as a possible flagbearer hopeful, but his speech quickly became the center of a spontaneous draft movement. Chairpersons from all 16 regions of Ghana interrupted his address, declaring their united support for him to lead the party into its next chapter.
Citing his extensive political experience, strong ideological roots, and deep institutional memory of the NPP and its predecessors—including the United Party—the chairmen passionately called for Agyarko to steer the party forward during what they described as a critical turning point.
One chairman rose during Agyarko’s address and stated, “The party is at a crossroads. We need someone with experience and clarity to lead us forward.” This statement ignited thunderous applause, followed by loud chants of “National Chairman! National Chairman!” from the packed conference hall.
Agyarko’s political pedigree is well established. He previously contested the NPP’s flagbearership in 2007 and played a pivotal role as campaign manager during the party’s successful 2012 presidential election campaign.
His surprise endorsement comes at a significant moment, with the NPP’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026. If Agyarko accepts the call, he will join what is shaping up to be a high-stakes race that already includes two notable contenders: former General Secretary John Boadu and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi.
Both Boadu and Wontumi were in attendance at the Kumasi conference, making the public show of support for Agyarko even more striking. Political analysts suggest this unexpected momentum could potentially shift the dynamics of the race and influence decisions from other contenders.
As the NPP gears up for a pivotal election cycle, Boakye Agyarko’s grassroots-driven endorsement sets the stage for what could be a closely watched and fiercely contested battle for the party’s top executive position.
