MP Tells Asiedu Nketia to ‘Know Better’ After Calling Electoral Commission Incompetent

“Asiedu Nketia has been in politics for decades. He should be the one teaching others what’s right—not spreading accusations about the EC’s incompetence when, in fact, their actions are part of the problem,” he said.
He warned that continued political attacks on the Electoral Commission could have dire consequences for Ghana’s democratic stability.

“If this issue isn’t handled properly, it could escalate. Every political party might want to appoint its own EC in the future—and that’s a dangerous precedent for our democracy,” he cautioned.
Addressing the NDC’s suggestion of petitioning for the removal of EC Chairperson Jean Mensa, Baffour Awuah remarked, “Given their current tone, it wouldn’t be surprising. But if it ever reaches that stage, I trust the judiciary and any investigative committee to act in the interest of Ghana.”
He further accused the NDC of having a history of undermining independent institutions, citing previous efforts to remove high-profile officials.
“They pushed for the removal of the Chief Justice. It’s clear they are willing to do the same with the EC Chair,” he claimed.

The Manhyia South MP also noted that the Ghanaian public is closely watching the NDC’s behavior and will hold them accountable when it matters most.
“Ghanaians are observing Asiedu Nketia and his NDC allies. When the time comes, the people will remind them where true power lies—at the ballot box.”
His comments come in response to a recent press conference in which Asiedu Nketia called for the EC leadership’s removal, alleging persistent electoral mismanagement.
