Kuami Eugene Says He Still Serves God Through His Music Journey

Kuami Eugene Says He’s Still a Minister of God Despite Secular Music Success

Ghanaian highlife star Kuami Eugene has revealed that despite his rise to fame in the secular music industry, he still sees himself as a minister of God. The award-winning artiste, known offstage as Eugene Marfo, shared his spiritual roots in a recent interview with media personality Doreen Avio.

According to Kuami Eugene, his musical and spiritual foundation was built in the church, and that part of his identity has never faded. “I’m still a minister of God,” he affirmed. “The church taught me everything—how to play the piano, guitar, drums, and even how to lead worship. While I was in school, I was actively involved in music ministry at church, even though the push I’m getting now wasn’t there yet.”

He further explained that many people still associate him with his church beginnings, often tagging him in spiritual posts on social media. Despite his current success in mainstream highlife and afrobeat, Kuami Eugene says his journey began with gospel music, and he continues to carry that background with him.

One pivotal moment in his early career was a gospel convention in the Volta Region, which he attended at the invitation of a friend who was a pupil teacher at the time. “She invited me for a three-day convention with her church. I was still Minister Eugene Marfo then. That was actually where I received my first pay for singing. Big shout out to her,” he recalled.

Following that experience, Kuami Eugene auditioned for MTN Hitmaker, where he finished as second runner-up. His talent caught the attention of Lynx Entertainment, where his professional career officially began.

He expressed gratitude to God, his family, and mentors such as Richie Mensah and Eric Goka for their support throughout his journey. Today, Kuami Eugene is one of Ghana’s most celebrated artists, with hits like Angela, Wish Me Well, Open Gate, and Monica.

He is currently promoting his latest single, Do Better, while continuing to honor his spiritual roots as a minister of God.
