KMJ Credits Sarkodie’s Album Tour for Launching His Journey as a Professional MC

KMJ Shares How Hosting Sarkodie’s Album Tour Sparked His Journey as a Professional MC

Renowned Ghanaian media personality and Master of Ceremonies, Kpekpo Maxwell Justice—popularly known as KMJ—has opened up about the defining moment that ignited his passion for professional emceeing. Speaking on The Career Trail, a program aired on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, KMJ revealed that hosting Sarkodie’s album tour in Koforidua was the turning point that made him believe in his calling as an MC.

Although KMJ had long been recognized for his charismatic presence on radio and television, he admitted that he initially saw emceeing as an extension of his media work, not a full-fledged career path. That changed the night he held the microphone at the Koforidua stadium for Sarkodie’s show.

“I discovered that part of myself when I was in Koforidua,” he said. “I realised I could connect with people in a unique way. I love making people happy, and that side of me has always been there.”

He continued, “But one show changed it all—Sarkodie’s album tour in Koforidua. It was at the stadium, and I hosted it. After the show, I felt within me that I could take this seriously. I told myself, ‘I can do this.’”

Since then, KMJ has gone on to host countless events both in Ghana and abroad, including in the United States. However, he notes that for him, it’s never been about quantity—it’s about quality and impact.

“I’ve lost count of the events I’ve emceed,” he said. “But I’m not particular about how many events I get to host in a year. Even if it’s just one, I want to do it so well that three years later, someone will say, ‘You hosted this event, and I loved it.’ That’s what matters to me.”

KMJ also touched on a common misconception within the media industry—that anyone who can speak into a microphone is naturally suited to emceeing. He clarified that being an effective MC requires more than just good speaking skills.

“The fact that you can speak into a microphone on radio or TV doesn’t mean you can be an MC,” he emphasized. “It takes understanding the craft, connecting with your audience, and having the right mindset. But it’s something that can be learned and developed over time.”

With over a decade of experience, KMJ stands as a respected voice in Ghana’s media and events industry. His story serves as a powerful reminder that true purpose often reveals itself through experience—and when it does, it’s worth pursuing with passion.
