“I Lost My First Child Because I Was Broke” – Nollywood’s Ibrahim Chatta Shares Painful Story

Ibrahim Chatta Opens Up About Losing First Child Due to Lack of Hospital Funds
Veteran Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta has revealed a deeply emotional and tragic experience from his past—the loss of his first child due to an inability to afford medical treatment. In a heartfelt interview with Abiola Orisile of Events & Parties TV, the 54-year-old actor recounted the painful memory that has haunted him for years.
Chatta explained that his daughter, his first child, died in his arms after he failed to raise enough money for her hospital care. He described the lengths he went to in a desperate attempt to save her life, trekking for hours across multiple Lagos neighborhoods—Ijora-Badia, Itolo in Orile, Lawanson, Costain, and Makoko—places he once hawked puff-puff to survive.
“My first child is not Malik,” Chatta said, holding back tears. “The first child I had died. The hospital demanded money before they could treat her. I walked all over the city looking for help, but I didn’t get any until she passed away.”
The veteran actor shared that the heartbreak was compounded by the fact that he couldn’t afford a coffin. Instead, his daughter was buried in a wooden Coca-Cola tray. “They buried her with a Coca-Cola tray,” he said, breaking down in tears.
The actor kept this chapter of his life private for years, only opening up about it during a trip to Dubai with his current partner. After buying a diamond anklet for their daughter, the topic came up, and he finally shared the painful memory. “Her mother asked why I seemed emotional. I told her about the child I lost, and everyone in the room cried. It was the first time I ever spoke about it.”
Now a proud father of three, Chatta expressed his deep gratitude for fatherhood and his hope to expand his family even more in the future. “Children are a gift,” he said. “Despite the pain of the past, I am thankful for my kids and look forward to more blessings.”
The actor’s candid revelation has sparked an outpouring of empathy and praise from fans, many of whom commended him for his vulnerability and resilience.
