Cristiano Ronaldo Signs New Contract With Al-Nassr, Extends Stay Until 2027

Cristiano Ronaldo Extends Al-Nassr Contract Until 2027, Eyes 1,000 Career Goals
Cristiano Ronaldo has officially extended his stay with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, signing a new two-year contract that will keep him at the Riyadh-based club until 2027—well beyond his 42nd birthday.
The 40-year-old Portuguese superstar initially joined Al-Nassr in December 2022 following his controversial departure from Manchester United. At the time, Ronaldo had made headlines for openly criticising the Premier League club and stating he had “no respect” for then-manager Erik ten Hag.
With his previous contract set to expire at the end of June 2025, there had been widespread speculation about a potential move away from Saudi Arabia. However, Ronaldo put those rumours to rest on Wednesday by sharing a post on X (formerly Twitter) that read: “A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let’s make history together.”
Ronaldo’s Impact at Al-Nassr
While Al-Nassr have not secured a league title during Ronaldo’s tenure, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has remained a prolific force in front of goal. In the 2024/25 season alone, he netted 35 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions, securing the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot for the second straight year.
In total, Ronaldo has scored 99 goals in 111 appearances for Al-Nassr—putting him within striking distance of becoming the first player in history to reach 1,000 senior career goals. He currently sits at 938 combined goals for club and country.
The forward recently helped Portugal win the 2025 UEFA Nations League, and his extended club deal indicates he is also likely to aim for a record-breaking sixth FIFA World Cup appearance in 2026.
Rumours of Exit Quashed
Just a month ago, Ronaldo raised eyebrows by declaring “the chapter is over” on social media, following another trophyless season for Al-Nassr, who finished third in the Saudi Pro League. This led to speculation that he might exit the Middle East for one final stint in Europe or join a Club World Cup contender.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino had even hinted that Ronaldo might join a team competing in the expanded 2025 Club World Cup in the U.S. While Ronaldo confirmed he had received multiple offers from participating clubs, he ultimately chose to remain in Saudi Arabia.
No Return to Europe Likely
The decision to remain at Al-Nassr until at least 2027 appears to end any remaining hope of Ronaldo making a competitive return to top-tier European football. His current contract is reportedly still the most lucrative in football history, valued at approximately £177 million per year.
Ronaldo’s next chapter in the Saudi Pro League also comes amid leadership changes at Al-Nassr, with former AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli recently parting ways with the club. A new head coach is yet to be announced.
As Ronaldo continues to break records and redefine longevity in modern football, his mission in Saudi Arabia is clear: to make history, reach 1,000 goals, and continue inspiring fans around the world.
