Why Jack Alolome Abandoned NPP to Join NDC – Full Story

Gospel Musician Jack Alolome Reveals Why He Switched from NPP to NDC

Ghanaian gospel musician Jack Alolome has revealed the key reason behind his decision to shift political allegiance from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC)—a turning point that came after a single five-minute performance.

In an interview on Okay FM, monitored by Adomonline.com, Alolome shared that he initially supported the NPP due to family influence, noting that his parents were “die-hard sympathisers” of the party. Most of his close friends also leaned toward the NPP, shaping his early political views.

However, his experience at a 2016 NPP campaign event left him disappointed and disillusioned. The gospel artiste recounted that after performing at the rally, he and his team received no payment or appreciation for their efforts.

“I wasn’t paid anything—not even something for the boys I came with. They didn’t recognise that I was doing business. Music is my work, my livelihood,” he lamented.

This experience made him question his alignment with the NPP. Not long afterward, he was invited by an NDC candidate to perform at a campaign launch. Although technical issues limited his performance to just five minutes, what followed became a defining moment in his political journey.

“To my surprise, after the performance, some of the NDC executives came to my hotel room with a thank-you package of GHS 20,000. I was shocked. For just five minutes?” he said.

Alolome said the act of appreciation revealed to him that the NDC values people’s efforts, regardless of circumstances. “They saw value even in a performance that didn’t go as planned. That’s when I made up my mind—these are the kind of people I want to align with.”

Since then, the gospel singer has grown fond of the NDC, not just for that one event but also because of what he describes as the party’s inclusive values and people-centered policies.

While many expect gospel musicians to remain politically neutral, Jack Alolome insists that every citizen, including artists, has a role to play in national development. “Politics is about building the nation,” he said. “We all have a stake in choosing leaders who value our work and understand our struggles.”
