NPP Sets January 31, 2026, for Presidential Primaries to Choose Flagbearer

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially announced that its presidential primaries will take place on January 31, 2026. This important date was confirmed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, following the National Council’s approval of recommendations from the Constitution Review Committee.

Mr. Kodua clarified that this date is final and does not need further endorsement from the National Delegates Conference, as the National Council holds the authority to set such timelines.

“The date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the day we elect our flagbearer,” Mr. Kodua said. He also mentioned the formation of a dedicated planning committee tasked with overseeing the primary process as part of broader constitutional amendments underway within the party.

In preparation for the next phase, a nine-member committee led by former Bekwai MP Joseph Osei Owusu has been appointed to organize the upcoming National Delegates Conference, scheduled for July 2025. This conference will review additional proposed changes to the NPP constitution.

Excitement is building among party members, as the presidential primary is expected to attract both veteran politicians and fresh aspirants eager to lead the NPP into the next general election. The party has promised a clear, transparent, and fair process in line with its democratic values.

Party officials have also indicated that official nomination guidelines, timelines for campaigning, and a code of conduct for aspirants will be announced in the coming weeks. This is to ensure all candidates adhere to rules that promote fairness and unity within the party.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) reassured members that every effort will be made to conduct credible elections that reflect the will of the party faithful. This step marks a key moment for the NPP as it gears up for the 2026 general elections.

With the presidential primary date firmly set and preparations underway, all eyes will be on the NPP as it works to select its next leader and flagbearer for Ghana’s highest political office.
