125th Anniversary: Obuasi Methodist Basic School Seeks Support to Improve Facilities

Obuasi Methodist Basic School Marks 125th Anniversary with Appeal for Urgent Infrastructure Support
As part of its 125th anniversary celebrations, Obuasi Methodist Basic School has launched a passionate appeal for critical infrastructure support to enhance teaching and learning conditions for its growing student population.
During the launch event, Headteacher Mr. Yaw Okyere Ghansah outlined the school’s urgent needs, which include a new classroom block, a modern ICT laboratory, and a perimeter fence wall to ensure student safety. With over a century of service to the Obuasi community, the school now faces significant infrastructural decay.
In an interview with Adom News, Mr. Ghansah revealed that parts of the existing classroom structures are in a dangerous state of disrepair, describing them as potential death traps that threaten the safety of students and staff. The school, which currently accommodates around 800 students, operates with just one six-unit toilet facility, lacks an ICT lab, and has no fence to protect the premises.
“These conditions are alarming and directly impact the quality of education we can provide,” Mr. Ghansah stated. “We are calling on the government, NGOs, philanthropists, corporate bodies, and the general public to support us in reviving this historic institution.”
Also in attendance was the Obuasi West Municipal Education Director, Mr. George Alfred Koomson, who backed the appeal. He emphasized that adequate infrastructure is key to improving academic outcomes and student morale. Mr. Koomson urged old students and well-meaning individuals to help preserve the school’s legacy of educational excellence.
The 125th Anniversary and Homecoming celebration is not only a moment to honor the school’s rich history but also a strategic effort to rally support and secure the necessary resources for a brighter future for Obuasi Methodist Basic School.
